The Home Valuation Code of Conduct and Appraisals

As of May 1, 2009, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac mortgages have been held to a specific standard for solicitation, compensation, selection, conflicts of interest and appraiser independence by the Home Valuation Code of Conduct (HVCC). This means that REALTORS® and mortgage brokers are not allowed to select their own appraisers to help avoid any appearance of “stacking the deck” in favor of their client. Continue reading →
